We’re currently looking for two lovely people to join our opening team.

Come grow with us

Experienced Barista — Full-Time Opening Role

Expected commencement

August 2026, with the exact start date to be confirmed.

The role

We’re looking for an experienced, steady barista to join our opening team.

You’ll be the first person through the door in the mornings, preparing the café for the day and caring for our early customers independently before the rest of the team joins you.

Trust is a meaningful part of this role. We need someone who is comfortable taking ownership, making sound decisions and setting a calm, capable tone for the day.

In return, we’re offering genuine stability: five reliable weekdays, full-time employment with paid leave entitlements, and no rostered weekend shifts.

What you’ll be doing

  • Opening and preparing the café, including the coffee equipment, grinder, POS, float, stock and display checks.
  • Dialling in and producing consistently beautiful coffee with care, pace and attention to detail.
  • Welcoming customers warmly, learning our regulars by name and helping create the thoughtful service The Paper Daisy will be known for.
  • Managing the early opening window independently, including orders, payments and sound on-the-spot decisions.
  • Keeping the coffee station, front counter and customer area clean, stocked and beautifully presented.
  • Supporting grab-and-go merchandising, basic food handling and a clear handover as the rest of the team arrives.
  • Following food-safety procedures and communicating stock, equipment or maintenance needs early.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong hands-on barista experience, ideally within a busy specialty or quality-focused café.
  • Confidence with espresso calibration, milk texturing, alternative milks and an efficient service workflow.
  • Opening, closing, keyholder or shift-lead experience is highly regarded.
  • A calm, self-directed approach and the judgement to notice what needs doing without waiting to be asked.
  • Genuine reliability and punctuality—our early customers and small team will depend on you.
  • Confidence using a POS, handling payments and reconciling a float accurately.
  • Reliable early-morning transport, as public transport is limited at this hour.
  • A Food Handler certificate, or willingness to complete one before starting.
  • A kind, grounded and team-minded nature. Skill matters here, and so does how people feel working beside you.

What you’ll find here

  • A full-time role with five reliable weekday shifts and no rostered weekends or late nights.
  • $31–$35 per hour, depending on experience, plus superannuation and full-time paid leave entitlements.
  • A brand-new café and coffee setup, with the opportunity to help shape routines and standards from day one.
  • A small, founder-led workplace where care, communication and doing things properly are valued.
  • The chance to help build a café that feels genuinely connected to its local community.

Part-Time Café All-Rounder

Expected commencement

August 2026, with the exact start date to be confirmed.

The role

Some people have a gift for making a place feel looked after.

They notice when the display needs straightening, when a teammate could use a hand, when a bench needs a wipe and when a customer might appreciate a warm hello. That is the kind of person we would love to meet.

You’ll work alongside our barista and the owner through the busy morning and lunch period, moving comfortably between front-of-house service, food preparation, restocking and keeping the café fresh and welcoming.

You’ll also confidently step onto the POS and support the flow of service while the barista takes a break or another part of the café needs attention.

The role is expected to offer approximately 25–35 hours per week, primarily across weekday mornings. Initial shifts are likely to fall between approximately 6:30am and 1:45pm, Monday to Friday.

As a new café, our roster will evolve as we learn the natural rhythm of trade. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable with some flexibility in their start and finish times, with roster changes communicated in advance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Welcoming customers, taking orders and providing warm, attentive front-of-house service.
  • Using Square POS and helping maintain a calm, efficient flow of service through breakfast and lunch.
  • Preparing and assembling grab-and-go items such as wraps, salads, overnight oats, chia cups and daily display stock.
  • Following recipes, labelling requirements and dietary procedures carefully and consistently.
  • Restocking food, packaging, napkins and service items before the team runs low.
  • Keeping the café floor, preparation areas, display case and dishes clean, organised and beautifully presented.
  • Supporting opening tasks and stepping in wherever the morning needs an extra pair of capable hands.
  • Communicating stock shortages, customer feedback or food-safety concerns promptly.

What you’ll bring

  • Some hospitality, food retail or kitchen-preparation experience is preferred, although attitude and reliability matter just as much as a long resume.
  • A warm, confident manner with customers and a genuine willingness to support your teammates.
  • Comfort working at a steady pace while still caring about presentation, accuracy and the small details.
  • Good food-handling habits and respect for dietary requirements and cross-contamination procedures.
  • Reliability, punctuality and dependable transport for weekday morning shifts, including starts from 6:30am when rostered.
  • A Food Handler certificate, or willingness to complete one before starting.
  • A practical, observant nature—you notice what needs doing and take pride in leaving a space better than you found it.
  • A kind, grounded and team-minded approach. Experience matters, but so does how people feel working beside you.

What you’ll find here

  • Regular weekday work, with hours and start and finish times able to evolve with customer demand.
  • No late nights and no rostered weekend shifts.
  • Pay in accordance with the Hospitality Industry Award, plus superannuation, with the applicable rate based on employment type, classification and experience.
  • A supportive opening team with room to learn, contribute and grow as the café does.
  • Coffee-skills training and opportunities to build confidence across different areas of café service.
  • A small, founder-led workplace built around kindness, quality, local connection and thoughtful details.
  • The chance to become one of the familiar faces our customers look forward to seeing.
